Wairarapa Wedding ~ Featherston Backyard / Greytown Town Hall

Zac and Han had their initial call with me after a huge storm and our internet was on the fritz. Through frequent freezes and lagging audio, I couldn't quite believe my ears when they said they wanted me to travel all the way to the Wairarapa to be part of their day. I am so glad they didn't let that terrible call put them off, because I really believe we were a match made in heaven.
I felt like a real big time photographer, flying down the country with all my gear packed and ready to go. I'd never been to Featherston or Greytown before, so I spent the day before the wedding exploring possible photo locations, and buying things from Featherston's Crystals and Curiosities.
The fun started the next day as I joined Han and her gals while they got themselves ready. The vibes were chill, the house was beautiful and Han's dress by L'eto Bridal was insanely stunning, and (in a non-creepy way) I could have stayed and photographed her in it all day. But we had a wedding to get to! The girls piled into a wedding van and we made the short trip over to her parent's neighbour's magnificent backyard. This wedding was truely a case of 'it takes a village', with Zac and Han's team of wonderful friends and family helping to pull it all together DIY style. Han sourced all her florals through the Wellington Flower Collective and spent the day before the ceremony organising the arrangements with friends.
I know I say this every time, but it really was incredibly special to be involved in this day. It was joyful, it was fun and most importantly it was exactly what Zac and Han wanted. There was no 'let's do it this way because this is how it's always done' and they were surrounded by (200!!!) people that loved and supported them as they spoke their vows.
After the ceremony, we zoomed out to Buck's Road Campsite for some bridal portraits. This spot was next level, and it's a yes from me to any future riverside locations. What you can't see are all the sandflies - if you're planning to get some photos here, it's worth loading up on repellant!
The night ended at the Greytown Town Hall where Zac's siblings speeches had me in stitches, and the party got started with a live, local band. We danced the night away, things got silly in a good way and I'd do it all over again in a heartbeat.
This day will live rent free in my mind for a while, and I still feel like such a rockstar being asked to come all the way from little ol' Raglan.
