Modern love isn't only weddings and engagements. I’ve always thought it’s really uncool that society mostly only deems marriage/pregnancy/children reasons to get cute photos. So when my beautiful friends, Heather and Kavi, asked me to photograph their "silly lil life" I said YES ABSOLUTELY PLEASE!
Heather, Kavi and I wandered around Auckland city together, visiting all their favourite spots to hang out. We spent some time in the Auckland Domain, and popped into the Winter Gardens. The floral displays, as always, were beautiful. Once we were satisfied we'd got what we needed, and after a quick outfit change, we headed over to Karangahape Road for a more urban look. Heather and Kavi lived on K-Road for a number of years and wanted to memorialise their time spent in one of the most vibrant spots in Auckland. Shooting in a metropolis after the quiet of the domain was a challenge. But once we all relaxed into it, I think we made some magic.
I'll let you in on a secret, my partner and I are not married and we might never be. And I think there's lots of couples like us out there, in this modern world. It's important that we celebrate every story, married or not. I would absolutely love to do more shoots like this, so if you're another unmarried DINK couple, or a SINK that has something they want to celebrate, or anyone that feels they don’t fit into societal norms for having cute pics taken and want some, let me know! Let's start a new narrative that any life is worth memorialising with photos.
